Site Measurement Checklist for Storage System Planning

Before we design your SMD BOX or NEO LIGHT system, measure the way from your unloading dock to the final position. We size the machine and split it into modules that fit your doors, ceilings, lift and floor.

Why measure first

Your building sets the module size

An automated storage system is only as big as the smallest opening on the way in. With your numbers we choose the model, decide how many modules it ships in, and make sure every module clears your tightest door, corner, lift or airlock and that your floor carries it.

Measure once, now. A door that is 50 mm too narrow is a free design change today and a crane job on delivery day.

How to measure

  • Clear opening, frame to frame and floor to frame, not wall to wall. Door leaves, closers and handles count.
  • Lowest point for heights: pipes, ducts, sprinklers, lights, cable trays and signs, not the ceiling slab.
  • Smallest value wins: where there are several doors or corridors, write the tightest one and mark it on the floor plan.
  • Photo with a tape across each opening, corner and obstruction. Millimetres everywhere.
The checklist

Write the value, tick when measured

Type the values here and send the form at the bottom, or print the page and fill it in by hand. Items that do not exist on your site (no lift, no airlock) are N/A. If you are not sure how to measure something, photograph it and we will ask.

1

Unloading

Where the truck stops and the crates come off.

MeasureNotesYour value
Largest truck that can reach the dock length / typeIs there a gate, height bar or tight turn on the way in? Note it.
Unloading methodLevel dock with leveler, dock without leveler, or ground-level unloading.
Forklift on site capacity kg, fork length mmOr crane / hoist and its capacity. Write “none” if nothing is available.
Covered staging area m²Dry space near the dock where crates can be parked and opened.
2

Route: dock to final position

Walk it once with a laser measure. For each row, write the tightest point on the whole route.

MeasureNotesYour value
Smallest door opening W × H mmClear opening with the door fully open. Note if the leaf or frame could be removed.
Narrowest corridor W mmBetween fixed obstacles: columns, racks, machines, handrails.
Tightest corner W of both legs mmWidth of the corridor before and after the turn, and the turn angle. A sketch or photo from above helps.
Lowest overhead point H mmPipe, duct, sprinkler, light, cable tray or sign anywhere on the route.
Steps, thresholds, rampsStep height in mm, ramp length and height, or “none”.
Floor type and load rating kg/m²Concrete slab, mezzanine, raised anti-static floor, tiles. Ask facilities for the rating of any raised or upper floor.
Freight lift door W × H, car L × W × H mm, load kgOnly if the route uses a lift. The door is usually smaller than the car.
Airlock or air shower inside L × W × H mmDoor sizes too. Note whether both doors can be opened at the same time.
Anything else in the wayFire shutters, drains, expansion joints, a running production line the route crosses.
Most common surprise: the main door is fine, but the air shower, a fire door frame, a cable tray just inside a door or the lift door is the real limit.
3

Final position

Where the machine will stand. Measure the space you can actually give it.

MeasureNotesYour value
Available floor area L × W mmWall to wall or to the nearest fixed equipment. Mark which sides are walls and which side faces the line.
Ceiling height at the lowest point H mmUnder any beam, duct, light or sprinkler above the area.
Floor type and load rating kg/m²Ground slab or upper floor; raised anti-static floor or not.
Floor level and conditionVisible slope, cracks, trenches or drain covers inside the area.
Space next to it for assembly m²Temporary area to unpack and lay out modules during installation.
Power available nearby V / phase / ANearest outlet or distribution board and its distance from the area.
Network port nearbyWired port within cable reach: yes / no / can be added.
Room conditionsAir-conditioned? Humidity controlled? Direct sunlight? Heavy vibration or dust nearby?
Do not skip

Where machines usually get stuck

Five points that are easy to miss on a quick walk and expensive to discover on delivery day.

  • Air shower into the SMT floor. Often shorter and narrower than any other door on the route.
  • Cable tray or sprinkler just inside a door. The door height passes, the tray two metres behind it does not.
  • Raised anti-static floor. Its load rating decides whether the machine can roll across it or needs plates.
  • Lift door, not lift car. Measure the door opening; that is what the module has to pass.
  • Ceiling at the final position. Tall systems need extra height to lift the top module into place during assembly.
Send back

Send the measurements, we design around them

  • Now: the values you typed above are sent with this form. Empty rows are fine; send what you have.
  • Then, by email reply: photos of each door, corner, lift, airlock and overhead obstruction with a tape across it, the final position from two sides, and a floor plan or sketch with the route marked.
  • You get back: a proposed model, the module split, crate sizes and weights, and a layout drawing. If something on the route is too tight for any configuration, we tell you before you order.
