Which AGV integration mode fits your SMT line?
Answer three questions about your plant and get the integration mode Neotel would propose, with the scope split between Neotel, your team and your AGV vendor.
Mode A vs Mode B vs Turnkey: what changes
All three modes end in the same closed loop: SMF releases a kit or a replenishment, an AGV carries reels between SMD BOX or NEO LIGHT storage and the line, and SMF records the hand-over. What differs is who dispatches the AGV and who owns the integration work.
| Mode A: fleet-manager integration | Mode B: direct dispatch by SMF | Turnkey: Neotel supplies AGV and integration | |
|---|---|---|---|
| When | A fleet manager already dispatches your AGVs, or your chosen vendor ships one | AGVs run from the vendor controller only, no fleet manager | No AGVs yet; you want one supplier for storage, transport and software |
| Who dispatches | Your fleet manager | Neotel SMF | Neotel SMF via the fleet manager Neotel supplies |
| Neotel scope | Interface layer: transport orders, station map, status feedback, exceptions | Interface plus dispatch logic: queue, priority, station occupancy, retries | Storage, AGV fleet, software, commissioning, training |
| Your or vendor scope | Fleet-manager API access, route and traffic control, AGV maintenance | Vendor controller API, pathing and safety on the AGV side | Layout, network, MES connection point |
| Typical interface | Vendor REST, VDA 5050 or MES relay | Vendor REST or TCP controller API | Defined by Neotel |
| Timeline driver | Fleet-manager vendor API readiness | Controller API documentation and a test AGV | Layout freeze and delivery lead time |
Frequently asked questions
Does Neotel replace our existing fleet manager?
No. In Mode A, SMF sends transport orders to your fleet manager and receives status back. Traffic control, charging and safety stay where they are today.
Which AGV brands can SMF work with?
Any AGV or AMR whose fleet manager or controller exposes a documented API. The brand list in the wizard covers systems Neotel has integrated or scoped before. Choose Other for anything else; we check the API during the engineer review.
We are still choosing an AGV vendor. What should we ask them?
Ask for the API document of the fleet manager or controller, whether VDA 5050 is supported, how a third-party system creates a transport order and receives completion, and whether stations can be added without vendor on-site work.
Can the same AGVs serve SMT and warehouse tasks?
Yes, and this is the strongest case for Mode A: the fleet manager arbitrates between SMF transport orders and other systems. In Mode B, SMF assumes it is the only dispatcher.
What does the engineer review include?
A reply within one to two business days covering the proposed mode, the interface points on both sides, the information we still need, and a rough sequence for a pilot line.
